Biography

The Hon. Rhonda Erin Fischer is a judge for the Nassau County District Court in the Tenth Judicial District of New York. She was elected to the District Court bench in 2008 and then re-elected in 2014.

She is a registered Republican.

Judge Fischer received her B.A. from the State University of New York at Oneonta in 1990. She went on to earn her J.D. from Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center in 1993.

After graduating from law school, Fischer began her legal career as an associate at the Law Offices of Robert L. Ostrov, where she practiced briefly beginning in 1994. The following year, she practiced as a senior attorney with Novak and Associates, before becoming a deputy county attorney for the Nassau County Attorney’s Office in 1996.

In 1998, she began serving as the legislative liaison between the Nassau County Executive and the Nassau County Legislature.

Fischer held that position until rejoining the Nassau County Attorney’s Office in 2001. During her tenure with the Attorney’s Office, she served as deputy bureau chief of its Tort Litigation Bureau and also served as a supervising attorney, where she was tasked with overseeing other attorneys as well as the support staff within the Nassau County Office. She remained with the Attorney’s Office until her election to the District Court in 2008.

Fischer has served as a mentor to law students as part of the Nassau County Attorney’s Law Intern Program and has also volunteered as a judge for mock trial tournaments. Besides devoting her time to serving in those capacities, she has also served as a lecturer on the subjects of litigation and trial practice for continuing legal education courses.

While on the bench, Judge Fischer has presided over the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Part. She has also served as an appointed member of the County Executive’s Task Force on Family/Domestic Violence.

Her other memberships have included the Nassau County Bar Association, the Nassau County Women’s Bar Association, and the Nassau/Suffolk Trial Lawyers Association.

Judge Fischer was born and raised in Nassau County.
