Judge Robert A. Bauman - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Robert A. Bauman is a judge for the 13th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in Hillsborough County. He was elected to the bench in 2014, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. James M. Barton (Ret.).

During his judicial tenure, Bauman has held assignments in the Unified Family Court/Juvenile Dependency (Crossover), Unified Family Court/Juvenile Delinquency (Crossover), Unified Family Court/Independent Living Transition Services, and Civil Divisions.

He received a B.A. in social and behavioral sciences from the University of South Florida in 1981. Bauman went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Dayton School of Law in 1984.

Shortly after graduating from law school, Bauman joined the Office of the Public Defender for Hillsborough County, where he served as an assistant public defender until 1988. It was at that time, he left the public sector to enter private practice. He joined the Morris Law Firm (formerly Morris & Rosen, P.A.), where he practiced commercial civil litigation as a senior associate for thirty-one years.

In addition to his law practice, Bauman served as a varsity soccer coach for Jesuit High School (1987 to 2013). Under his leadership, Jesuit High School won five state titles and went on to win a national title in 2001. Bauman, who played USV Men's Varsity Soccer at the University of South Florida, also served as head coach of the University of Dayton Women's Soccer Club while attending law school.

His memberships have included the American Bar Association, The Florida Bar, and the Hillsborough Bar Association.
