Judge Robert W. Peeler - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Robert W. Peeler is a judge for the General Division of the Warren County Court of Common Pleas in Ohio. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Ted Strickland on September 4, 2009.

Peeler is nationally recognized for his innovations in drug treatment options for heroin offenders, which he designed in an effort to battle the heroin epidemic in Warren County. The program offers defendants a series of shots of Vivitrol, a drug that is used to block receptors in the brain and prevent a person from feeling the effects of heroin. He also sat as Interim Administrative Judge for the Warren County Probate-Juvenile Court (2012 to 2013) as well as the Warren County Judge for the Board of the Miami Valley Conservancy District.

Prior to his appointment, Peeler was an owner of Peeler, McGary & Zopff Co., a law firm he opened in 1982. He also served as a prosecuting attorney for the City of Mason Law Department and the Deerfield Township Law Department (1984 to 2009). Peeler was Board Certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.

Peeler earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from Murray State University in 1979. He then completed a J.D. at Northern Kentucky University, Salmon P. Chase College of Law in 1982. As a law student, Peeler was an extern in the Special Prosecutor’s Unit of the White Collar Crime Division of the United States Attorney’s Office.

His memberships have included the Potter Stewart American Inns of Court (judicial advisor) and the Warren County Bar Association (president).

He was named Warren County Public Official of the Year by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (2014). He is also a recipient of the George J. Gounaris Judicial Recognition Award from the Miami Valley Trial Lawyers and the Criminal Justice & Mental Health Award in Excellence from the National Alliance on Mental Illness-Southwest Ohio (2015).

A long-time resident of Warren County, Peeler is a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Vietnam as a qualified expert on M16A1.

He is registered as a Republican.
