Judge Ronald J. Israel - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Ronald J. Israel is a judge for the Eighth Judicial District Court in Clark County, Nevada. He was elected to the bench in 2010 and retained his seat in 2014 and 2020.

Israel received a B.A. in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1977. He went on to earn a J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1981.

After relocating to Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1982, Israel joined the law firm of Harding & Dawson, where he practiced insurance defense. While there, one of his notable cases included the MGM Grand Fire case. He left the firm to join Manos & Cherry, where he worked as a civil litigation attorney. He then joined Edward M. Bernstein & Associates as a senior associate before entering into solo practice in 1990. His scope of practice included personal injury and workers compensation.

Israel was chosen to serve as a judge pro tempore for the Clark County Short Trial Program and also served as a court-appointed arbitrator.

His memberships have included the Clark County Bar Association, Nevada Bar Association, California Bar Association, American Bar Association, National Bar Association, Las Vegas Latino Bar Association, South Asian Bar Association, Southern Nevada Association of Women Attorneys, and the Nevada Women’s Lobby.

Israel, who is an Eagle Scout himself, is active with the Boy Scouts of America. His other civic activities include the FBI Citizens Academy, Clark County Pro Bono Project, American Israel Public Affairs Committee, World Jewish Congress, Seniors United, Nevada Public Radio and PBS, and the Mock Trial Association. He is also on the Board of Directors of the Las Vegas Region’s Anti-Defamation League.
