Biography

The Hon. Rosa M. Fregoso is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Gavin Newsom in 2022. She fills the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Victor H. Greenberg.


Prior to her appointment, Fregoso was of counsel at Wright Kim Douglas, a position to which she was named in 2021. Before that, she spent time as an administrative law judge for the California Department of Social Services (2019), an associate at the Velasco Law Group (2014 to 2019), and a sole practitioner her own private practice (2011 to 2014).


Fregoso earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of California, San Diego (1988) and a master's degree in Latin American studies from the University of California, Berkeley (1992). She also completed a J.D. at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in 1992.


After graduating from law school, Fregoso began her legal career as a staff attorney for the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles. She served in that capacity until 2007, at which time she became an alternate public defender for the Los Angeles County Office of the Alternate Public Defender.


Fregoso is registered as a Democrat.
