Judge Stephanie K. Miller - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Stephanie K. Miller is an associate judge for the Probate Division of the Cook County Circuit Court in Illinois. She was appointed to the bench by the Illinois Circuit Court in 2017, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Robert Lopez Cepero.

Miller earned a B.A. in United States history and political science from Northwestern University in 1994. She then completed a J.D. at Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 1998.

After graduating from law school, Miller began her legal career as an assistant public guardian with the Cook County Office of the Public Guardian. She served in that capacity until 2001, at which time she became an Assistant State’s Attorney in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. As an Assistant State’s Attorney, Miller spent most of her tenure in the Sex Crimes Unit, handling cases involving child and adsolescent victims.

Her memberships have included the Puerto Rican Bar Association, the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois, the Westbucktown Neighborhood Association, the Maplewood and Lucy Flowers Park Advisory Council, and Friends of Goethe School. Miller is the co-founder of the Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago and the National LGBT Prosecutors Association. She has also served as treasurer of the National Hispanic Prosecutors Association as well as the LGBT Committee Chair for the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois.

She has been endorsed by the Chicago Chapter of the Fraternal Order of the Police.

When not presiding over the bench, Miller enjoys sports. She is a former Illinois High School Association softball umpire.

She is registered as a Democrat.
