Biography

The Hon. Stephen A. Pitre is a judge for the 1st Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Rick Scott on May 21, 2018, filling a vacancy created by the resignation of the Hon. Edward P. Nickinson, III.

The 1st Judicial Circuit encompasses Escambia, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, and Walton Counties. Pitre has held assignments in Escambia County.

Prior to his appointment, Pitre was a shareholder at Clark, Partington, Hart, Larry, Bond & Stackhouse, where he practiced general civil and commercial litigation. Before that, he served as an assistant state attorney in the Office of the State Attorney for the 1st Judicial Circuit. During his tenure there, he prosecuted major felony offenses, including drug conspiracy and internet predator cases, and he worked with the Florida Attorney General's Office on capital collateral appeals.

Pitre earned a B.A. from Louisiana State University. He then completed a J.D. at Loyola University New Orleans School of Law in 1997. He is admitted to practice in Florida and Louisiana (1998).

His memberships have included the Gulf Breeze Rotary Club, the Panhandle Tiger Bay Club, and St. Anne Catholic Church. He also served as an honorary member of the Board of Directors for St. Michael's Cemetery Foundation.

Pitre was a resident of Gulf Breeze, Florida, at the time of his appointment.
