Judge Stephen E. Benson: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

The Hon. Stephen E. Benson is a judge for the Superior Court of Butte County in California. He was elected to the bench in 2000.

Benson earned a bachelor’s degree from Pacific Union College in 1968. He then continued his studies there, completing an M.A. in 1971. Then, in 1978, Benson received a J.D. from Western State University School of Law.

Prior to his election to the bench, Benson worked as an attorney in private practice.

The Commission on Judicial Performance issued a public admonishment against Benson in 2006. It concluded that Benson had violated the Political Reform Act for his failure to appropriately report a campaign loan.
