Judge Steven B. Feren: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Hon. Steven B. Feren (Ret.) was a judge for the 17th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in Broward County. He was elected to the bench in 2008. Feren retired after his term expired in 2015.

Prior to his election, he spent the bulk of his legal career in the political arena. Feren served on the Sunrise City Commission (1987 to 1992) and was an elected member of the Florida House of Representatives (D - District 98, 1992 to 1996). He then began a tenure as Mayor of the City of Sunrise in 1996 and remained in that position until resigning in 2009. Feren also worked as an attorney in private practice.

He received a B.A. from the City University of New York at Queens College in 1974. Feren then completed a J.D. at St. Thomas University College of Law in 1979.

His memberships included serving as a past president of the Sunrise Bnai Brith and the Sunrise Civic Association and was a member of the Sunrise Regular Democratic Club Board of Directors, the West Broward Democratic Club, and the Plantation Democratic Club. Feren also served on the Broward County University Advisory Committee and the Broward County Democratic Executive Committee.
