Biography

The Hon. Suzanne J. Adams is a judge for the Kings County Family Court in the Second Judicial District of New York. She was designated to the position by the Hon. Lawrence K. Marks, Chief Administrative Judge of the State of New York in 2018. Prior to her appointment to the Family Court, Judge Adams was elected to serve as a judge for the New York Civil Court in 2017.


She is a registered Democrat.


Judge Adams graduated with her B.A. in journalism from Pennsylvania State University in 1996. She went on to earn her J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law in 1998.


After graduating from law school, Adams entered into private practice. She first worked as an associate at the law firm Ahmuty, Demers and McManus beginning in 1999 until becoming a partner at Morris, Duffy, Alonso and Faley in 2001. She remained a partner there until 2015 when she then became a partner at McManus, Ateshoglou, Adams, Aiello and Apostolakos. She was serving in that position at the time of her election to the Civil Court. During her time in private practice, Adams handled a wide range of cases involving motor vehicle and trucking accidents, premises liability, property damage, and architectural malpractice and construction site accidents in accordance with the New York State Labor Law.


Adams has served as the chair of the Columbian Lawyers First Judicial Department and co-chair of the New York County Lawyers Association Civil Court Section. She has also been a member of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, the New York State Bar Association in the Torts Insurance and Compensation Law Section, the Lawyers Breast Cancer Alert, and the NAACP Mid-Manhattan Branch.


She was recognized by the New York State Assembly for her volunteer work with the Eviction Intervention Services Clinic.


Judge Adams’ father, the Hon. Thomas A. Adams, is a Justice on the Nassau County Supreme Court.
