Judge Thomas L. Fink - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Thomas L. Fink is a judge for the Santa Cruz County Superior Court in Arizona. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jan Brewer on June 3, 2014, filling a vacancy created by the elevation of the Hon. James A. Soto to the United States District Court for the District of Arizona.

Prior to his appointment, Fink was a sole practitioner in his own private practice, a law firm he opened in Santa Cruz County in 2003. He handled criminal matters as a private attorney and a court appointed indigent defense attorney. Fink supplemented his practice with service as a court-appointed mediator for the Santa Cruz County Superior Court.

Fink earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan in 1980. He then completed a J.D. at Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law in 1984.

After graduating from law school, Fink entered into private practice, working as an attorney at Bell, Boyd & Lloyd in Chicago. He worked in that capacity until 1985, at which time he became a prosecuting attorney for the Tax Division of the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C.

Then, in 1988, Fink joined the Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Arizona. During his tenure there, he held assignments in the Criminal Division, rising through the ranks to become Chief Assistant United States Attorney. He also performed a brief stint with the Northern District of Illinois (1997 to 1998).

Fink currently resides in the Patagonia-Sonoita area.
