Judge Tierra D. Jones - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Tierra D. Jones is a judge for Eighth Judicial District Court in Clark County, Nevada. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Brian Sandoval in 2017.

Jones received a B.A. in criminal justice from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2003. She went on to earn a J.D. from William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2006.

After law school, Jones clerked for the Hon. Stewart L. Bell with the Eighth Judicial District Court.

She joined the Clark County Public Defender’s Office (2006 to 2011) until becoming a prosecutor with the Nye County District Attorney’s Office (2011 to 2013). Later, Jones returned to Clark County to join the District Attorney’s Office there (2013 to 2014).

In addition to her legal work, she has served as a mentor and volunteer in her community.

At the time of her appointment to the bench, Jones held the distinction of being the first African-American woman to sit on the state court bench.

She was born and raised in Hawthorne, Nevada.
