Judge Trent E. Meltzer: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Hon. Trent E. Meltzer is a judge for the Shelby County Circuit Court in Indiana. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Eric Holcomb in 2018, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Charles D. O’Connor (Ret.).

Prior to his appointment, Meltzer served as the City Attorney in Shelbyville since 2010.

He received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Ball State University in 2006. Meltzer went on to complete a J.D. at Indiana University, Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 2009.

He served as director of the Shelbyville Redevelopment Commission.

Meltzer is a lifelong resident of Shelby County. His wife, Jennifer, is a state representative in the Indiana House of Representatives for District 73. Following her husband’s appointment to the bench, she also succeeded him in the position of Shelbyville City Attorney.

He is registered as a Republican.
