Judge Tygh M. Tone - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Tygh M. Tone is a judge for the Erie County Court of Common Pleas (General Division) in Ohio. He was elected to the bench in November 2004.

During his tenure in the General Division, Tone presides over Civil, Criminal, and Domestic Relations cases in Erie County.

He received a B.A. from the University of Toledo in 1984. Tone went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Toledo College of Law in 1987. While a law student, he worked as a clerk for the Hon. Melvin L. Resnick (deceased) with the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas (1985 to 1989).

After completing his clerkship, Tone joined the Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office, where he worked briefly as an assistant prosecuting attorney assigned to the Criminal Division (1989 to 1990).

He left the public arena in 1990 to become an associate at the Toledo law firm of William, Jilek, Lafferty, Gallagher & Scott, LPA. Tone also practiced as a named partner at the Sandusky law firm of Tone, Grubbe, McGory & Vermeeren, LPA (1992 to 2004).

In addition to his private practice, Tone worked as an assistant prosecuting attorney in the Criminal Division of the Ottawa County Prosecutor’s Office (1992 to 1994) and an assistant prosecutor in the Criminal Division of the City of Sandusky Law Department (2000 to 2004).

His memberships have included the Ohio State Bar Association, the Toledo Bar Association, the Erie County Bar Association, and the Ohio Common Pleas Judges Association. Tone also sat on the Court Administration and Judicial Bench Book Committees and served as a faculty member of the Ohio Judicial College.
