Judge William V. Gruber - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. William V. Gruber is a judge for the Jefferson County Circuit Court in Wisconsin. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Scott Walker in 2018, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Jennifer L. Weston.

Prior to his appointment, Gruber was the City Attorney for the City of Watertown, a position to which he was named in 2012. Before that, he spent time as assistant corporation counsel for the Dodge County Corporation Counsel’s Office (2010 to 2012).

Gruber earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Carroll University in 2001. He then completed a J.D. at Marquette University Law School in 2004.

After graduating from law school, Gruber began his legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. Robert G. Mawdsley of the Waukesha County Circuit Court. He served in that capacity until 2005, at which time he entered into private practice at John T. Fields & Associates (2006 to 2007) and Glojek, Attorneys at Law (2007 to 2010). In that capacity, he specialized in civil litigation, complex probate contests, landlord-tenant actions, debt collection, bankruptcy, and family law matters.

His memberships have included the St. Thomas More Lawyer Society of Wisconsin, the Federalist Society, and the Board of Directors of People Against Domestic Abuse of Jefferson County. He also sat on the board of the Women’s Center of Waukesha - Crisis Prevention, and he has been involved with the Wisconsin State Bar’s Wills for Heroes Program.
