Judge Yasmine I. Poles - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Yasmine I. Poles is a judge for the Sixth Circuit Court of Michigan in Oakland County. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Gretchen Whitmer in 2020, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Hala Y. Jarbou (Ret.).

During her judicial tenure, Poles has held an assignment in the Civil/Criminal Division.

Prior to her appointment, she had managed her own private practice, the Law Offices of Yasmine I. Poles, PLLC (2019 to 2020). She specialized in criminal defense, custody, and employment matters. In addition to her practice, Poles was corporate counsel and director of human resources for Success Mortgage Partners, Inc. (2017 to 2020) and Title Partners, Inc. Before entering private practice, she had worked for twelve years as an assistant prosecuting attorney in Macomb County (2005 to 2017).

Poles received a B.A. in psychology from the University of Michigan in 2000. She went on to complete a J.D. at Wayne State University Law School in 2004.

She was admitted to practice in Michigan (2004) and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

Her memberships have included the American Bar Association, the Oakland County Bar Association, the Michigan Association of Justice, the Wolverine Bar Association, the Macomb County Bar Association, the Criminal Defense Association of Michigan, and the Women Lawyer Association of Michigan.

Poles has also served on the State Bar of Michigan Criminal Law Committee, the Governor Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect, and the Oakland County Bar Association Criminal Law Committee, Circuit Court Committee, Employment Law Committee, Real Estate Committee, and Professional Responsibility Committee. She was also involved with the Chaldean Chamber of Commerce and the Chaldean Ladies of Charity Advisory Board.

At the time of her appointment, Poles resided in Birmingham, Michigan, with her husband, Paul, and their two children.
