Judge Alfred G. Chiantelli: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

The Hon. Alfred G. Chiantelli (Ret.) served as a judge for the Superior Court of San Francisco County in California. He retired from the bench in 2002.

Chiantelli earned a B.A. from the University of San Francisco in 1961. He then received a J.D. from Lincoln University Law School in 1967.

He began his legal career as an attorney in private practice, where he handled general civil and criminal cases. Then, in 1970, he joined the Office of the District Attorney of San Francisco County, where he climbed the ranks to assistant chief district attorney. He held this position until his appointment to the Municipal Court of San Francisco.

Since his retirement from the superior court, Chiantelli has worked as a neutral for ADR Services, Inc.

Chiantelli was named Mediator of the Year by the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association (2006), Judge of the Year by the Bar Association of San Francisco Barristers (2001), and Trial Judge of the Year by the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association (1995). He is a recipient of the Outstanding Judicial Achievement of the Year Award from the Consumer Attorneys of California (2000), the Marvin E. Lewis Award from the San Francisco Law School (1994), the Golden Apple Award from the San Francisco Law School (1989), and the Champion of the People Award from the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office (1983).

Chiantelli was raised in North Beach, a historically Italian-American neighborhood in San Francisco.

He is registered as a Republican.
