The Hon. Gail Killefer is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown on January 1, 2019, filling a vacancy created by the elevation of the Hon. Frank Menetrez to the California Court of Appeal.
Prior to her appointment, Killefer was the Director of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Program at the United States District Court for the Central District of California from 2010 to 2019.
Killefer earned a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University in 1975. She then completed a J.D. at Vermont Law School in 1980.
After graduating from law school, Killefer began her legal career as a law clerk for the Hon. Barrington D. Parker of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. She then became a trial attorney for the Torts Branch of the United States Department of Justice.
In 1989, Killefer relocated to California. She joined the Office of the United States Attorney for the Northern District of California, where she served as an Assistant United States Attorney. Then, in 2001, she entered into private practice, working as an associate at Verner, Liipfert, Bernhard and McPherson.
