Judge Jay A. Bender - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Jay A. Bender is a judge for the Collin County Court at Law No. 6 in Texas. He was appointed to the bench by the Collin County Commissioners in 2010.

Prior to his appointment, Bender worked as a sole practitioner in his own private practice. He specialized in criminal defense matters.

Bender earned a B.A. in business and economics from Austin College in 1995. He spent the next few years working for Andersen Consulting before completing a J.D. at St. Mary's University School of Law in 2004.

After graduating from law school, Bender began his legal career as an assistant district attorney for the Collin County District Attorney's Office (2007) and the Dallas County District Attorney's Office (2004 to 2007). During this time, he held assignments in the Organized Crime and the Cyber Crimes Units.

His memberships have included the Board of Directors for the Collin County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.

Bender was raised in the Dallas area. He attended Spring Valley Elementary School, Northwood Junior High School, and Richardson High School, joining the United States Navy Reserves on his eighteenth birthday. He was assigned to the USS Constellation (CV-64) and VF-202 and trained as an aviation mechanic.

He is a registered Republican.
