Biography

The Hon. Laura J. Johnson is a judge for the 38th Judicial Circuit Court of Missouri. She was elected to the bench on November 4, 2014, filling a vacancy created by the passing of the Hon. Mark E. Orr.

Prior to her election, Johnson was a partner at Ellis, Ellis, Hammons & Johnson in Springfield, a law firm she joined in 1991.

Johnson earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Missouri State University in 1985. She then completed a J.D. at Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in 1988.

After graduating from law school, Johnson began her legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. Elmo B. Hunter of the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri. She served in that capacity until 1990, at which time she entered into private practice at Stinson, Mag & Fizzell in Kansas City.

Her memberships have included the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association, the National Rifle Association, the Ozark Rotary Club, and Missouri Right to Life. She has also been involved with the Missouri Judicial Records Committee, the Civil Education Committee, the Board of Examiners for Certified Court Reporters, the Board of the Least of These Food Pantry, and the Commission for the Retirement, Removal & Discipline of Judges.

She is registered as a Republican.
