Judge Susan A. Dabaja - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Susan A. Dabaja is a judge for the Third Circuit Court in Michigan. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Gretchen Whitmer on March 31, 2022, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Bruce Morrow.

Prior to her appointment, Dabaja was a sole practitioner in her own private practice. She handled family, civil, real estate, contracts, immigration, landlord-tenant, criminal, and bankruptcy matters for seventeen years. She supplemented her practice by providing pro bono services for juveniles, single mothers, and non-profit institutions.

Dabaja earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Michigan, Dearborn. She then completed a J.D. at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2004.

Her memberships have included the Dearborn City Council, the Dearborn Education Foundation, the Local Community Stabilization Authority, and the Michigan Commission of Middle Eastern American Affairs.

Raised in Dearborn, Michigan, Dabaja attended Edsel Ford High School. She continues to reside there with her husband, Majid, and their three children.
