Judge William A. Daniel - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. William A. Daniel (Ret.) was a judge for the Vicinage 12 Superior Court in Union County in New Jersey. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jim McGreevey in 2003 and reappointed for tenure in 2010. Daniel retired from the bench after being sworn in as the Union County Prosecutor on July 14, 2021, a position to which he was appointed by Governor Phil Murphy.

While on the bench, he held assignments in the Family Division (2003 to 2007, 2013 to 2014), Civil Division (2007 to 2011), and Criminal Division (2011 to 2013, 2014 to 2021) in Union County.

Daniel received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from John Jay College in 1977. He went on to complete a J.D. at Seton Hall Law School in 1982.

After graduating from law school, Daniel began his legal career as an assistant prosecutor with the Union County Prosecutor’s Office in 1982. He left the Prosecutor’s Office in 1987.

It was at that time, Daniel entered into private practice at Woods & Trembulak in Crawford, though his time there was brief (1987 to 1988). Daniel continued in private practice until 2001. He also spent time as a municipal prosecutor and municipal judge in Linden.

Daniel holds the distinction of being the first prosecutor in Union County since 2013 to not serve in the capacity of acting prosecutor.

He was born and raised in Linden.
