Judge Ronald V. Alvarez - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Ronald V. Alvarez (Ret.) was a judge for the 15th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in Palm Beach County. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Lawton Chiles in 1993 and re-elected in 2006 and 2012. Alvarez resigned from the bench in 2014 and became a mediator and arbitrator at a private mediation firm.

He held assignments in the Juvenile, Civil, and Family Divisions.

Prior to his appointment, he was a private practice attorney since 1972. His areas of practice included insurance litigation and contract disputes.

Alvarez received a B.A. in political science from Indiana University in 1966. He then completed a J.D. at Indiana University School of Law in 1969.

After graduating from law school, Alvarez served in the United States Army (1969 to 1971).

He served as a chairperson of The Florida Bars Grievance Committee and as a member of its Commission on the Legal Needs of Children. Alvarez was also president of the Palm Beach County Chapter of The Florida Bar and the American Board of Trial Advocates and a member of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.

In 1986, Alvarez received The Florida Bar Presidents Pro Bono Award.
