Judge Terrance P. Marren - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Terrance P. Marren (deceased) was a judge for the Eighth Judicial District Court in Clark County, Nevada. He was elected to the bench in 1993. Marren held the seat until 1998. He would later become a senior judge in 2005.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served as a member of the 101st Airborne Division, Special Forces Unit during the Vietnam War. After serving as a combat medic in Vietnam, Marren was awarded the Purple Heart.

He received a B.A. in political science from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1974. Marren went on to earn a J.D. from California Western School of Law in 1977.

He began his legal career as a clerk for the Nevada Supreme Court.

After his clerkship, Marren then served as a legal advisor to then-Governor Mike O’Callaghan. His legal career also included serving as a deputy attorney general and chief counsel for the Office of the Attorney General of Las Vegas' Welfare Division (1979 to 1982) and the deputy city attorney of the City of North Las Vegas (1983 to 1985). He then became the first domestic relations referee for the Eighth Judicial District Court, where he served from 1986 to 1992.

While on the bench, he presided on the Family Court.

After his departure from the bench, Marren became the first full-time city attorney for the City of Mesquite, Nevada. He held this position until retiring in 2005.

During his retirement, he served as a private mediator and was later recalled by the Nevada Supreme Court to serve as a senior district court judge.

He was also an adjunct instructor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the Community College of Southern Nevada.

Marren was on the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club of Las Vegas and the Boy Scouts of America, Las Vegas Area Council. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Sunrise Children’s Hospital Foundation and was an advisory board member for the Goodwill Industries of Southern Nevada.

Marren is credited with founding the Southern Nevada Domestic Violence Task Force in 1990, where he was also a past-president and long-time member.

He was born in Sheepshead Bay, New York and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada after returning from Vietnam in 1970. He passed away in 2013.
